Stay classy on the road with this special edition bike. Limited to 1000 units, the production of this 35th anniversary motorcycles SR-series will be produced by Yamaha between Feb. 14 and Aug. 31. The 35th Anniversary Edition Yamaha SR400 will be available in the Japanese market for 510,000 yen (US$5746), which is lower than the 550,000 yen (US$6197) price of the original pearl white or black model.
The 35th Anniversary Edition Yamaha SR400 will come with special color ‘Leaf Green Metallic’ along with white stripes. The bike also features special anniversary badge and two-tone seat brown.
Fyi, the SR series (SR500) was first introducted in 1978. At the time, the SR500 is powered by 499cc single-cylinder engine and received a huge success in several markets due to the advent of fractional motors. Once offered in several markets, the SR series in recent years has been almost sold in Japanese Market only as the SR400. The Yamaha SR400 model features a shorter stroke to take advantage of the country of the Rising Sun’s 400cc licensing laws. This model was produced until 2008 and then reintroduced in 2010 with a fuel injection system replacing the old model’s carburetor.
The new Yamaha SR400 boasts a 399cc engine with fuel injection system and mated to five-speed transmission, delivering 30hp at 7500rpm and 23 ft-lb. of peak torque at 6250 rpm. Other SR400 features include a kick starter, a double-cradle frame, telescopic forks and a rear drum brake, and front disc brake. The current Yamaha SR400 weighs 383 pounds, and has a fuel economy of 96.4 mpg.
