In order to celebrate its 90th anniversary, BMW Motorrad has unveiled its 1170cc retro roadster called the R nineT. Like the 1923 BMW R 32, Brand’s first-ever motorcycle, the 2014 BMW R nineT uses a boxer engine, producing an output of 110-horsepower at 7750rpm and and peak torque of 88 lb-ft @ 6000 rpm.
The legendary classic flat twin boxer engine fitted on the BMW R nineT has 1170cc of displacement and is an air- and oil-cooled unit. The engine is linked to a 6-speed manual constant mesh gearbox and is mated to a new modular, tubular steel spaceframe that used the boxer twin engine as a load-bearing element. The R nineT naked roadster also has removable pillion frame that allows it to carry a passenger.
The 2014 BMW R nineT also features an adjustable exhaust system (it can be mounted in a lowered or raised position). For more retro and agresive look, an aluminium tail cover and a titanium Akrapovic exhaust are available as a special accessory.
For suspension, the back of BMW R nineT features a paralever single-sided swingarm and a vertical strut with a white coil spring, while the inverted 46mm Sachs fork handles suspension duties at front. According to BMW, the R nineT has 4.7 inches of suspension travel borh front and rear, a 58.1-inch wheelbase, an aluminum 4.8 gallon fuel tank and a seat height of 30.9-inch.
Braking duties are taken by radial four-piston monobloc calipers that grab 320mm discs at front and a 265 mm single-disc with a twin-piston floating caliper at rear. ABS is standard. The BMW R nineT comes equipped with stainless steel spoke wheels. Its swingarm has been designed to accommodate a 6 inch 200 mm wheel (it comes standard with a 5.5-inch-wide tire).
The 2014 BMW R nineT is only available in pure Black with contrasting silver and metallic highlights. No word on pricing, but the bike is scheduled to hit US dealerships in March 2014.
