BMW has announced a new middleweight adventure-tourer, the 2014 BMW F800GS Adventure. The 2014 BMW F800GS Adventure which is an Adventure version of the BMW F800GS and it provides a more off-road-oriented version of the middleweight dual-sport.
The 2014 BMW F800GS Adventure is aimed for the adventure travelers who prefer a mid-sized motorcycle to the BMW R1200GS Adventure with its 1,170 cc Flat Twin ‘Boxer’ 4-Storke engine that generates 110 hp at 7750 rpm and 88 ft-lb of torque at 6000 rpm. Compared to the BMW R1200GS Adventure, the new F800GS Adventure is only powered by the same liquid-cooled 798cc four-valve parallel-twin engine as the standard F800GS model, delivering 84.5 hp at 7500rpm and 61.2 ft-lb. of torque at 5750rpm.
The new GS Adventure features updated bodywork, a larger fuel tank than a standard F800GS’s – 2.1 gallons more for a total of 6.3 gallons -, a larger windscreen, a 10mm taller bench seat for a total of 890mm (but also available the free optional low seat height option), hand protectors, an adjustable, reinforced rear brake lever, enduro footrests, a pannier rack which also functions as a tank protection bar, as well as a stronger rear subframe which has been modified to support that larger under-seat fuel tank. BMW claims the larger tank will extend the F800GS’ range by 75 miles, giving it a total of 220-mile.
BMW says the F800GS Adventure’s fully fueled weight of 504.8 pounds is 33 pounds heavier than the standard F800GS’s. Like all current BMW models, ABS is standard equipment, but both Automatic Stability Control (ASC) and Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) systems are options.
The 2014 BMW F800GS Adventure will be availabel in two different colors (Sandrover Matte or Racing Red). However, the first 1,000 adventures sold will be dubbed the 2014 BMW F800GS Adventure “Launch Edition” (unfortunately, not available in the U.S) and will come in Sandrover matte paintwork in combination with three equipment packages (Comfort, Enduro and Special package). The Enduro package adds Automatic Stability Control (ASC) and the Enduro ride mode for better acceleration and braking for off-road riding. The Special Package includes a set of lockable aluminum cases, a topcase holder and a BMW Motorrad Navigator Adventure GPS system.
There’re also numerous special accessories and ex-works optional extras available for the 2014 BMW F800GS Adventure.
US pricing for the base model BWM F800GS Adventure will be $13,550. The Premium model (Comfort + Enduro packages) will start at $14,350, which the so-called “Fully Loaded” model will set you back $14,350.
