2014 Piaggio Liberty 3V Unveiled in Europe

Piaggio has updated its best seller high wheel scooter, the Piaggio Liberty, with the new modern, fuel-efficient, 3-valve injection engine, as well as upgraded chassis, improved ergonomics and a higher load capacity. The newborn star in its segment is called the Piaggio Liberty 3V.

Available in Europe, the 2014 Piaggio Liberty 3V will be offered in two options: the Piaggio 3V 125 and Piaggio 3V 150, which replace the 2-valve Liberty 125 and the 2-stroke Liberty 50. According to Piaggio, the new 3V engine has greater performance than compared to the conventional 2-valve engines, and drastically reduced internal friction and fuel consumption and running costs. Its fuel-injected, single-cylinder 4-stroke air-cooled engine comes with 3-valve single overhead camshaft timing (two intake and one exhaust).

The 2014 Piaggio Liberty 3V 125 with the new 3V engine has an output of 10.2 hp at 7500 rpm and 7.7 ft-lb. at 6000 rpm, while the 2014 Piaggio Liberty 3V 150 has an output of 11.7 hp at 7250 rpm and 9.6 ft-lb. at 5500 rpm. Equipped with the particular efficiency of the transmission, fuel consumptions fall drastically. The 125 version can cover 138 mpg at a constant speed of 31 mph, while the 150 version reaches 134 mpg in the same conditions.

Visually, the Piaggio Liberty 3V is unmistakable elegance. It compact in size and elegant in its lines with unique front headlamp, kindly triangular, leg shield-integrated turn signals, easy to read instruments, chromed inserts and Piaggio’s signature “tie”.

The chassis also has been renewed. The new Liberty 3V is 15mm shorter than the previous model, but has a larger wheelbase (1,345 mm against the 1,325 mm of the old model). The front wheel is now equipped with 15 inches wheel rim (instead of 16 inches) and sports a narrower tire with a higher shoulder (80/90 instead of 90/80), while the rear wheel remains 14 inches in diameter.

For considerable riding comfort, the saddle is completely new, which now has a more tapered shape, making it easier for everyone to their feet down. The loading capacity of the helmet compartment also have been further increased 23% – the battery has been moved into legshield back plate box -, going from 8.8 to 10.8 liters of space. In addition, there’s also a luggage hook in the leg shield back plate for small items.

Piaggio also offers a comprehensive range of accessories including sturdy, shockproof, 4 mm thick, scratchproof windshield, the capacious top box, the leg cover, and so on.

The 2014 Piaggio Liberty 3V is available in Europe. It will be offered in four color options: Blu Midnight, Bianco Perla, Nero Grafite and Marrone Onix. No word is the scooter will also be available in U.S or not.
