Harley-Davidson has unvelied its 2014 touring bikes during the company’s annual Summer Dealer Meeting in Denver as it introduced the smart and innovative enhancements that project Rushmore will bring to the new 2014 line-up.
Mark-Hans Richer, Harley-Davidson Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer explains that “Project RUSHMORE is a pure expression of our relationship with our customers and a shared passion for riding motorcycles.”
The Harley-Davidson touring models which receive Project Rushmore include the 2014 Tri Glide Ultra Classic, the 2014 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Limited, the 2014 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic, 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special, the 2014 Harley-Davidson Street Glide and the 2014 Harley-Davidson Road King.
The Project Rushmore includes improved power, enhanced braking performance and rider ergonomics, as well as dramatic styling updates that accoring to the Company will completely redefine and fundamentally transform the touring motorcyclist’s experience.
The High Output Twin Cam 103 fitted on the Street Glide, Street Glide Special, Road King and Electra Glide Ultra Classic models now comes equipped with a new camshaft and a high-flow airbox, which according to Harley it has 5 percent more torque than the standard Twin Cam 103 powertrain.
The Company was also introducing a new Twin-Cooled High Output Twin Cam 103, which uses both liquid and air to cool the engine. Harley claims it has a higher 10.1:1 compression ratio, providing 10.7 percent more peak torque than the old Twin Cam 103. The new Twin-Cooled High Output Twin Cam 103 powertrain will be fitted on the 2014 Ultra Limited and Tri Glide Ultra.
All Touring models except the 2014 Road King come equipped with an Hydraulic Assist and Slip clutch. The Electra Glide Ultra Special, Ultra Limited, Street Glide, Street Glide Special, and Tri-Glide get a new Batwing fairing with slipstream venting that according to Harley can reduce head buffeting by 20% compared to the old design.
The rear suspension of the 2014 touring models remains unchanged, but the front is fitted with a larger and significantly more rigid stiffer 49mm forks. The Street Glide Special, Electra Gide Ultra Classic, Electra Glide Ultra Limited now come standard with Reflex Linked Brakes with ABS; but on the Road Kings and Street Glides it available as a factory-installed option.
The Project Rushmore also gives the 2014 Harley-Davidson Touring Models an upgraded Boom! Box infotainment systems which offers an audio system, GPS navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and voice commands. The Box infotainment is available in two variant: the Boom! Box 4.3 and the enhanced Boom! Box 6.5 GT.
Pictured above is the the 2014 Tri Glide Ultra Classic, a luxury three-wheel tourer from Harley-Davidson which was first introduced in 2009. The Harley-Davidson Tri Glide Ultra Classic is really nice to ride and it is stable and comfortable to ride for both short and long distance. This type of motorcycles are cheap alternative to cars and are also perfect for the typical long distance rider who have bad balance problems.
