Custom Yamaha XJR 1300 by Wrenchmonkees

The talented bike customiser Wrenchmonkees got a call from the Japanese factory and been asked to built a Monkee Bike based on the Yamaha XJR 1300 within three months.

The XJR 1300 is an air-cooled motorcycle made by Yamaha. This big street machine is “big on power, big on technology, and big on street-dominating style.” The Yamaha XJR 1300 is powered by 1,251cc, 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, 4-valve air-cooled engine, and comes equipped with a great-sounding EXUP exhaust.

Wrenchmonkees felt very challenged to bring the XJR 1300 to the next level, “We really wanted to push the boat out and make something inspirational for XJR fans.”. This project is called MonkeeFist, the first in a series of Yamaha’s “Yard Built Specials”.

The XJR 1300 is not an “old bike”, so the Danish custom builder decided to keep the standard tank, swingarm and Öhlins rearshocks, engine and fuel injection, frame – but with a shortened rearframe – of the bike, then added Yamaha R1’s front fork, front and rear brakediscs and calipers, along with WM custom components including tripple trees, front disc carriers, stainlees steel exhaust system, SPARK mufflers, oil cooler and steelbraided oil hoses, seatcowl and seat, aluminum wiring box under seat, headlight, rearlight and mount, and steel/aluminum battery box under swingarm.

“Our universe does not involve bright, shiny colours so we have used a matt, dark olive green with a slight twist of metallic flake,” said Nielsen. “The XJR’s swingarm and engine have a similar black finish, but we wanted to make the frame stand out. So we sandblasted the paint off and then set fire to it, to create a raw-steel burnt effect.” He added.

The custom Yamaha XJR 1300 by Wrenchmonkees sits on a new set of custom wheel with stainless spokes, hub and rims gloss black powder coating (18-inch rear and 19-inch front), and wrapped in Metzeler ME880 tires. Other features include Magura brake and clutch master, and Steelbraided brake hoses.
