Has been presented at the 2012 EICMA Show, the new 2013 Moto Guzzi California 1400 Custom pictured above boasts the same stroke as the 1151cc engine, but reaches a displacement of 1380cc (the largest V2 in Europe) through a 104mm bore. Its engine is trulty an evolution of the popular “Quattrovalvole” (four-valve), delivering 95 hp at 6500 rpm and 88.5 ft-lb. at 2750 rpm. The engine now is linked to a six-speed transmission instead of a five-speed gearbox.
Coming with ride-by-wire technology, the bikes offer three engine mappings: Turismo (touring), Veloce (Fast) and Bagnato (Wet). And also feature a three-level traction control system.
The 2013 Moto Guzzi California 1400 Touring version is also powered by the same air/oil cooled 1380cc 90-degree V-twin unit. But as a “touring bike”, the California 1400 Touring adds a prestigious two-tone saddle, a windshield, chromium supplementary lights, 35 liter saddlebags, as well as engine and pannier guards.
The California 1400 Custom model is covered in a mercury gray and basalt black color scheme, with drag bar handlebars and low two-seat saddle. The 1400 Custom sits lower than the 1400 Touring version (28.3 inches VS 29.1 inches), and is lighter (661 pounds vs 710 pounds).
Both 2013 Moto Guzzi California 1400 Custom and Touring feature a 5.4 gallon fuel tank, 46mm telescopic fork and double shock rear suspension with adjustable preload, and radial-mount Brembo calipers which mated to new aluminium-alloy wheels: 18-inch front (130/70) and 16-inch rear (200/60).
The bikes will be available in May, 2013. No word on pricing.
