2014 Honda CRF250R

Honda has unveiled the 2014 model year of its CRF250R motocross bike. The 2014 Honda CRF250R gets several updates including all-new chassis inherited from the CRF450R, an all-new engine, transmission, an upgraded suspension as well as bold look.

The 2014 Honda CRF250R now features the mass-centralised aluminium beam frame and new design philosophy that borrows from the CRF450R’s, as it lowers the center of gravity and offers more ‘tuned’ flex for better front-end traction and corner speed as well as giving the motocross bike a more agile feel. With mass centralization and superior ergonomics as the keys, the subframe and airbox of the bike have been reconfigured and the bike now comes equipped with a new twin-muffler exhaust system that are shorter and tucked in compared the single exhaust on the previous model.

The 2014 Honda CRF250R has a curb weight of 231 pounds, which is actually 4 pounds heavier than the 2013 model year, but with those several updates the 2014 CRF250R is claimed to be more flickable and nimble than before.

The 2014 Honda CRF250R is powered by a liquid-cooled 249cc four-valve Unicam engine with a new new cylinder head and piston as well as a higher compression ratio (13.5:1 from 13.2:1) than before. Furthermore, the engine is mated to a stronger five-speed transmission and comes equipped with new PGM-FI mapping with Dual Injector timing and a revised injector angle. The HRC Fuel-Injection that allows owners fine-tune their CRF250R’s fuel injection for specific track conditions is also available separately.

The radiators are lighter and mounted lower than the previous radiators. Honda also has updated the CRF250R’ Showa 48mm inverted cartridge forks with a new larger internal sub-piston (from 35mm to 37mm) to improve low-speed damping. The Showa rear shock also been updated with more rigid swingarm and a 14.5mm smaller Showa shock that sits 14.5mm lower within the frame.

For 2014, the spring weight has been updated to suit with the new frame, while the Pro-Link rear suspension allows 12.3in of wheel travel. The rear shock is fully adjustable and features 17-position rebound adjustment.

Other updates include a larger 1.66 gallon fuel tank compared to a 1.5 gallon on the previous model, a new seat, new bodywork with new shrouds and side panels.

The 2014 Honda CRF250R is scheduled to be available in September. Unfortunately there’s no word on pricing.
