BMW Motorrad has updated its R1200RS sports-tourer for 2015. Unveiled at the 2014 Intermot in Cologne, Germany, the 2015 BMW R1200RS comes with a new frame, new suspension and a new attitude.
The 2015 BMW R1200RS is powered by the same liquid-cooled, 1170cc flat-twin boxer engine that found in the new R1200GS, R1200GS Adventure, and R1200RT, however it has a slight increase in torque at low revs compared to the engines on the GS, GS Adventure and RT. The engine produces 125 hp at 7,750 rpm and 92 lb-ft at 6,500 rpm.
Compared to the adventure-style R1200GS, the 2015 BMW R1200RS has a sportier handling, sportier riding position and stiffer suspension with steeper steering geometry, thanks to its modified airbox, new intake air duct and central radiator.
The 2015 BMW R1200RS features an all-new tubular-steel bridge frame, a 2-in-1 exhaust system, a 18-litre tank, Automatic Stability Control (ASC), ABS, and two riding modes as standard (Rain and Road). Pro riding mode is available as an option, where it includes Dynamic Traction Control, banking detection as well as two extra modes, Dynamic and User. The latest-generation Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) is also available as an option, and Keyless Ride, Gear Shift Assistant Pro as ex-works options.
The 2015 BMW R1200RS will come in Lupin Blue Metallic/Light Gray Metallic and Granite Gray Metallic Matte colors. No word on its prices.
BMW Motorrad has also updated the BMW R1200R naked version for 2015, where it has the same features as its faired sibling, the 2015 BMW R1200RS. The 2015 BMW R1200R is available in Cordoba Blue Non-Metallic, Light White Non-Metallic with Racing Red frame, and Thunder Gray Metallic with Agate Gray Metallic Matte frame.
