After had updated its touring models with Project Rushmore, Harley-Davidson also has revealed its five-model Sportster lineup for 2014 with minor updates including new brakes with optional ABS, upgraded hand controls, and optional H-D Smart Security System. The five-model Sportsters include the SuperLow, Iron 883, 1200cc Forty-Eight, Seventy-Two and 1200 Custom.
All five-model Sportsters receive redesigned front and rear braking system. For front, it uses larger 300mm front rotors with a restyled front-brake caliper which features a more-rigid design and larger dual 34mm pistons than the old one (292mm disc with 25mm pistons), while the rear brake rotors are unchanged at 260mm, though they are restyled and updated with dual 38mm pistons for better braking system compared to the previous model with a single piston caliper. The clutch lever mount has been restyled as well.
The front and rear assemblies work independently. For added braking performance in less-than-optimal conditions, the 2014 Sportster models can be had with ABS as a factory-installed option, which is available for $795.
The security option, H-D Smart Security System, is also available for $395. It is a Smart Security System that features a hands-free fob and new keyless ignition.
The Sportsters’s electrical system also have been tweaked. There’s a new analog speedometer and digital tachometer, as well as a new oil tank and side cover design that are designed to make it easier to access the battery and diagnostic terminal. Wire harness and voltage regulator have been updated, and the hand controls have been restyled with a new switch on the left switchgear.
Although engine system remains unchanged, the 2014 Sportsters now come with an updated exhaust system that features fully-welded header pipes and new heated oxygen sensors linked to a closed-loop emissions circuit to reduce emissions.
New colors and graphics will be offered on the 2014 Sportster models.
