2012 Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 has been perhaps one of the most anticipated offering from the Royal Enfield stable. This new 500cc motorcycle has been unveiled at the 11th Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi, India. It is a larger displacement version of the 346cc Thunderbird which Royal Enfield first unveiled ten years ago.

“After 10 years of launching the Thunderbird, we have completely redesigned the model, especially for the urban and the long distance travellers,” Said Eicher Motors MD and CEO Siddhartha Lal.

2012 Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 is powered by a larger 500cc Unit Construction Engine (UCE) with 26hp and 30.5 ft-lb. This bike now features 41mm thick forks in front and an oval section swingarm at the rear, new handle bar, bungee cord hooks, a new twin pod instrument panel and new headlight with a 55w projector lamp for its low beam and a 55W halogen bulb for the high beam. Its redesigned seat now opens using a lock mechanism and the separately mounted pillion seat can be removed to accommodate luggage.

Other features include a large twenty liters fuel tank and Bybre’s braking system. The 2012 Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 comes as a fresh, completely new design.

2012 Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 will be available in India later this year. A range of accessories for both rider (jackets, boots, clothing and eyewear) and machine also will be available, coinciding with the launch of the new model.

Unfortunatelly, there’s no word on pricing and its availability in other markets at the moment.
