As its name suggests, KTM 690 Duke R is the R-spec version KTM’s middleweight 690 Duke, which was introduced in 2007.
The 2013 KTM 690 Duke R boasts the same 690cc engine as last’s year’s base model. The engine delivers 67 hp, but since the R model is equipped with an Akropovic exhaust, the 690cc engine can provide 69 hp at 7500 rpm with torque remains at 51.6 ft-lb. at 5500 rpm.
Other changes include the higher chassis, fully adjustable WP suspension pieces that includes a four-way adjustable rear shock, a Bosche 9M+ ABS system which has an anti-roll over mode, and Brembo M50 monoblocs which are 6% lighter than the previous top-spec Brembos. Furthermore, its ABS system also has a “supermoto” setting which allows a rider lock-up the rear wheel.
According to KTM, the new WP fork on KTM 690 Duke R is 15mm longer than the fork on the 690 Duke and it offers 150mm of travel compared to 135mm on the regular 690.
To support its racing applications, the 2013 KTM 690 Duke R also receives lower handlebars, new higher footpegs, a set of orange crash bars and a number of orange colored pieces.
