Along with the Suzuki RM-Z250 and RM85, Suzuki Motor of America also introduced the 2015 model year of its 450cc motocrosser, the RM-Z450. For 2015, the Suzuki RM-Z450 receives a number of meaningful upgrades including a Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC), a new Showa SFF-Air Front Fork, upgraded cooling system, a longer kick-start lever and redesigned frame.
First, let’s talk about the Suzuki Holeshot Assist Control (S-HAC). It is a new technology from Suzuki that allow rider to select between two different launch modes (A-Mode and B-Mode) programmed to improve acceleration. A-Mode optimizes traction on slippery or hard surfaces, where it alters ignition timing, reducing wheel slip for smoother acceleration. In other way, B-Mode provides a more aggressive launch by advancing ignition timing.
S-HAC system is engaged via a button on the left-side handlebar, and also comes with an indicator light that will flash slowly when in A-Mode and quickly in B-Mode.
The 2015 Suzuki RM-Z450 also gets a new Showa SFF-Air Front Fork which already tested and proven by Suzuki’s factory AMA Supercross racers including James Stewart. The new front fork delivers more progressive suspension feel and weighs 2.5 pounds lighter than the conventional spring fork found on the previous model.
Other upgrades inlcude a longer kick-start lever, a redesigned exhaust camshaft, updated de-compression system, revised kick-gear ratios, a 16-percent more efficient cooling system as well as a redesigned frame that increases rigidity and reduces weight by 4% from the previous model.
The 2015 Suzuki RM-Z450 is still powered by the same 449cc liquid-cooled four-stroke engine with dual overhead cams and Suzuki Fuel Injection with two additional plug-in fuel couplers.
Other features include Renthal FatBar, wave disc routers, Excel aluminum rims, and Suzuki’s quick-swapping rich and lean fuel-setting couplers. The 2015 RM-Z450 has a claimed curb weight of 247 pounds.
The 2015 Suzuki RM-Z450 will be available at Suzuki dealers beginning in July. Pricing has not yet been announced.
