The 2013 KX series motocross bikes, KX450F and KX250F, finally have been revealed. What’s new on these two machines? No major change, but the KX450F which has done well for Kawasaki in 2011 and 2012 AMA Supercross and 2011 AMA Motocross Series – thanks to the rider Ryan Villopoto- gets new pneumatic fork.
The 2013 Kawasaki KX450F now comes equipped with a new 48mm Kayaba Pneumatic Spring Fork (PSF) which uses compressed air as an “air spring”. The fork is not only 1.7 pounds lighter than the previous forks, but also allows for easier tuning, reduces friction and improve bottoming resistance. It has 32mm internal damping cartridge, DLC coating on the fork tubes and removable spring pressure adjustment valve. The KX450F’s engine also receives minor updates, with revising ignition timing, piston crown and intake cam, for better low rpm response. Other features include a new front master cylinder with a knocker-style lever-to-piston connection, and a new rear brake rotor.
The 2013 Kawasaki KX250F still run the Showa Separate Function Fork (SFF), yet it also received updates. Its SFF now uses larger 48mm inner fork tubes – 1mm larger than the previous forks-, offering more progressive damping. Other features on the KX250F include a redesigned cylinder head, new swingarm that features a longer cast front section, tapered hydroformed spars and forged chain adjuster, new brake pad material, a narrower frame and new radiator shrouds.
The 2013 Kawasaki KX450F will be available for $8,699 while the 2013 Kawasaki KX250F will be offered for $7,599.
