KTM has proudly announced its two electric off-road motorcycles, the 2015 KTM Freeride E-SX and the 2015 KTM Freeride E-XC. The Freeride E was first imagined in 2007 and it was revealed as a prototype at the 2011 EICMA show in Milan. The bike also has gone through various testing stages at off-road parks around Europe before it was officially unveiled this month.
The 2015 KTM Freeride E-SX and E-XC are essentially identical. They boast the same liquid-cooled, permanent-magnet AC motor that is powered by a 2,600Wh lithium-ion battery. The motor delivers 21.5 horsepower and 31 ft/lbs of torque, which KTM claims the result is similar to gas-powered motorcycles this size. Its battery stores 360 cells, weighing at 28kg, and is secured underneath the quick-release seat by four bolts. You can fully recharge the battery in 80 minutes or 80% in 50 minutes through the KTM quick charging system. Both electric off-road motorcycles run on a single gear, and are equipped with front and rear brakes controlled by hand levers.
Both 2015 KTM Freeride E-SX and E-XC also feature a chrome-moly steel and aluminum frame, a fiber reinforced polyamide subframe, a WP 43mm upside-down fork and PDS rear shock, as well as anodized aluminum Giant rims with CNC-machined hubs.
The 2015 KTM Freeride E-SX which is built purely for off-road purposes is priced at £9,999, while the 2015 KTM Freeride E-XC road-legal version is avaiable for £10,299. The later adds lights, mirrors, turn signals, an ignition lock and a steering lock.
